Watermarked document viewer

HelmXP embeds dynamic watermarks into Briefing documents opened by examiner-access accounts and anyone viewing a document outside the authoring context. The watermark records who opened the document and when.

What the watermark contains

Each watermark includes the viewer's name, their role, the Hub name, and a timestamp. Watermarks are rendered in the document at the time of viewing — they are not part of the stored file.

Screenshot detection

The viewer detects screenshot attempts on supported platforms and triggers a notification. On mobile, the PDF viewer enters a restricted-content state when a screenshot is initiated, preventing capture of the watermarked content.

Where watermarks appear

Watermarks appear on all pages of a Briefing opened through the secure viewer. They do not appear in the version an institution's Seat holders see in their normal authoring workflow.

Export and download

Downloaded PDFs retain the watermark. The watermark is embedded during PDF generation and cannot be removed by the recipient.

Supported platforms

The watermarked viewer works on current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop, and on the HelmXP mobile app on iOS and Android.

Limitations

Watermarks are a deterrent control, not a technical prevention mechanism. A determined actor with access to a secondary camera can capture content. Use examiner-access with time limits and minimum-necessary scope as the primary access control.
